Is there a treatment for SYNGAP1?
There is not currently an FDA approved medication or cure for SYNGAP1. However, there are health issue specific treatments that are used in SYNGAP1. For example, many intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) have suggested ways to treat their symptoms such as those from National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Seizures should be evaluated and treated with anti-seizure medications by a neurologist. Early developmental intervention is important to help children reach their potential. They may also benefit from occupational, physical, behavioral, and speech therapy.
Developmental pediatricians are specially trained to develop a therapy plan. Ask your doctor for a referral or find them online at The Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics website.
