Spina bifida - hypospadias

Overview

What is spina bifida-hypospadias?

Spina bifida-hypospadias is a condition in which a baby boy has both spina bifida and hypospadias together. Both conditions can occur separately, but this condition is a little bit different as it combines both birth defects. Spina bifida is a birth defect that happens when the brain, spinal cord, or protective covering around the spinal cord does not form properly. Hypospadias is a birth defect where the opening of the penis (the urethra) is not at the tip of the penis. It can be located anywhere from just below the end of the penis to the scrotum.
